About Rev. Jim W. Hollis: Jim came into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ at age eight. He was very involved in his home church throughout high school as well as in District Youth activities. He received a call to preach at the age of 17 and began preaching in his sophomore year of college. His undergraduate degree is from Georgia Southern University in Criminal Justice (1976) and he graduated Cum Laude with the Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology of Emory University in Atlanta, GA, in 1979. Rev. Hollis served 18 years as Pastor in United Methodist churches of various sizes - from small to large. In 1993, he was called to go into full time church consulting and evangelism ministry. He founded Proactive Evangelism Ministries as a faith ministry that same year. (Proactive is a 501.c.3, not-for-profit ministry.) Since 1993, the Proactive Staff grew to have as many as six ordained, clergy Elders on Staff, inviting numbers of laypersons to serve as well. After September 11, 2001, Proactive had to greatly reduce its Staff to two people; but in 2002, the Proactive Board of Laity and Clergy began to move more intentionally in the direction of adding Laity Staff to the ministry. As of 2010, in addition to Rev. Hollis, there are more than 20 Laity Staff in the ministry, as well as two other Clergy working full-time with Rev. Hollis, and other Clergy associates serving as needed. Proactive has many other laity volunteers who work in and travel with the ministry as it seeks to serve local churches, districts, conferences, synods and associations. Rev. Hollis received the Harry Denman Evangelism Award for Clergy in 1994 from the North Georgia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church for outstanding evangelism ministry development with local churches across the nation. He was named a "Fellow" in the Society of John Wesley by the National Association of Conference Presidents of United Methodist Men in Nashville, TN, for his extensive ministry leadership with United Methodist Men across the nation. He has served as a teacher, retreat leader, keynote speaker and preacher with more than 25,000 men in various groups across the country since 1993. He is also the author of Beyond The Walls, first published in 1993 by the General Board of Discipleship, Discipleship Resources. He is also a regular columnist writing on Outreach Ministry for the Wesleyan Christian Advocate, the official newspaper of Georgia Methodism. Rev. Hollis writes an email, daily devotional, which is received by more than 850 families across the nation. He and his wife, Jan, reside in Smyrna, GA. They have two sons, James and Jonathan. Jonathan and Tiffany, his wife, have been blessed with two sons, Wesley and Jack, and a daughter, Lucy. |
